The Recreation Programmer is responsible for the development, coordination, and facilitation of therapeutic leisure and recreational activities for the residents of the facility. The Recreation Programmer is also responsible for recruitment, selection, coordination, and monitoring of volunteers.

Responsibilities

· Maintains confidentiality of resident information

· Assess, design and plan leisure and recreational activities appropriate to each resident

· Is a resource in planning and implementing programs for residents on each Cottage

· Is a resource for CCA's in carrying out activities as outlines in resident care plans

· Coordinates volunteer staffing, as well as volunteer appreciation events

· Develops a comprehensive calendar of monthly activities

· Keeps recreation section of resident care plans up to date and accurate

· Keeps statistical records of recreation participation

· Is alert to any behavioural and/or physical changes in residents and reports and documents appropriately

· Monitors the safety and security of residents while at activities

· Organizes and attends resident outings

· Participates in resident care conferences

· Maintains a clean and safe working environment using routine precautions and WHMIS

· Maintains recreation supplies for recreation activities within annual budget

· Adapts to flexible Scheduling

Qualifications

· Recreation Programmer Certification

· Education and experience in long-term care, geriatrics, and dementia

· Alzheimer's and related Dementia certification an asset

· Standard First Aid and CPR certification

· Proof of Vaccination
