Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing ongoing guidance and support to operational sectors including recruitment and onboarding, performance management, employee counseling, training & development, and employee relations. The successful candidate must possess an operational mindset and understand that HR initiatives must be aligned with operational goals and objectives, providing a consistent yet flexible supporting structure.
  • Act as first point of contact for all human resources related matters such as policy, performance management, and employee/union inquiries
  • Full-cycle recruitment for hourly workforce, including relationship management with third party recruitment agencies
  • Facilitate new hire orientations for both staff and hourly employees
  • Manage attendance policy including tracking of absences and communication with managers/employees
  • Support employee/union relations including joint labour/management meeting, agreement interpretation, progressive discipline, etc.
  • Maintain employee data using the human capital management system and provide support to employees/managers as needed
  • Work closely with Operations including the Plant Managers and Supervisors in a fast paced, deadline driven, customer focused environment
  • Participate in weekly HR team meetings both locally and corporately
  • Active participation in HR and operational meetings
  • Various HR projects and initiatives including quarterly HR reporting in alignment with company goals
  • Additional duties as assigned

Technical Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years progressive HR experience in a generalist role with varied responsibilities across many HR functions
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant post-secondary degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations
  • CPHR designation would be considered an asset

Business Requirements
  • Experience in a unionized labour environment working with general labourers and various skilled workers
  • Past construction and or manufacturing experience is considered an asset
  • Technologically inclined, including strong Excel skills
  • Demonstrated experience managing priorities with flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to travel to additional plants and field sites in Ontario
