We are currently looking for a Permanent Part-time Cook. This is a 0.9 position.

Responsibilities

The cook is responsible for the preparation and handling of food in accordance with food safety regulations. You will prepare menu items using standardized recipes and may be required to calculate food requirements and determine food cooking time. You will be responsible for the storage of perishable food items and leftovers to avoid food wastage. The cook is responsible for proper care and use of all equipment. You enable support and provide quality resident centered care, consistent with available resources and in accordance with the mission, vision, values, code of conduct and policies of Dykeland Lodge.

  • Plan and prepare meals according to established standards, procedures, recipes and menus, including preparing special meals to meet appropriate therapeutic menu modifications as needed
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures in the handling, preparation and distribution of food
  • Conduct regular temperature audits of food and refrigerators/freezers
  • Be diligent in providing for the safety of residents at all time
  • Label and date all leftovers for storage and plan the efficient use of such leftovers
  • Check menu and pull out sheets and thaws frozen items accordingly; when pullout sheets are done correct to new menus and foods are ordered in as needed
  • Operate equipment within the department following safety guidelines and cleaning policies and report any malfunctioning equipment to Maintenance department
  • Clean all work surfaces and equipment (throughout the day) following proper safety, cleaning and sanitation rules
  • Provide leadership and direction to other Foodservice staff

Qualifications

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Must have a Valid Journeyman Chef License with Inter-Provincial Red Seal or be working towards completing Journeyman papers
  • Valid Food Handlers Course (Advanced Certification an asset)
  • At least one year experience cooking in a Long-Term Care/Residential Care setting will be considered an asset
  • Have an understanding, promote and practice resident-centered care
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, prioritization and time management skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels of residents, staff, family and volunteers
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety and ethical practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to on-going learning and professional development
  • Physically capable to perform the duties of the position including, but not limited to:
  • Ability to lift/push 35lbs
  • Ability to withstand the demands of walking, standing, lifting and bending for the majority of the workday
  • Demonstrated record of attending scheduled shifts on consistent basis
  • Demonstrated regular attendance in current and past employment
  • Available to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays and call-ins
