Chief Executive Officer

Divert NS is a not-for-profit corporation championing recycling in Nova Scotia. For over 25 years, the organization has helped build a waste diversion culture through environmental stewardship, education, and programming, helping to make Nova Scotia a recognized global innovator in waste diversion solutions.

On their behalf, we seek a seasoned professional to serve as their Chief Executive Officer.

As CEO, you are accountable for providing strategic leadership and direction to the organization. This includes accountability for their two primary recycling programs (the beverage container deposit refund program and the used tire management program), which have been the core of their business for many years. Additionally, you will be responsible for other programs and initiatives, which include delivering education and awareness programs, developing and implementing industry stewardship agreements, supporting research and development initiatives, funding the development of value-added manufacturing, and managing a network of 78 Enviro-Depots across the province.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will also be responsible for all aspects of day-to-day operations, including financial, administrative and human resource management.

What qualities are needed as CEO?

As the ideal candidate, you have a post-secondary degree in business administration or other relevant fields, such as environmental science or public administration. A master's degree would be a definite asset.

You have considerable experience in a senior leadership role and a track record of success managing complex organizations, such as a regulatory agency. In addition, knowledge of solid waste management and Extended Producer Responsibility programs is a definite asset.

We are looking for someone with strong financial acumen, strategic thinking skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with government agencies, recycling facilities, and the community. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you will need to communicate effectively with the Board, stakeholders, staff, and the media on a regular basis.

You are respected for your commitment to ethical and responsible leadership and have demonstrated experience leading and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in previous roles.

A full job description is available here.

If you are passionate about environmental sustainability, please forward your resume and a cover letter explaining your interest, qualifications and how you can help Divert NS achieve its mission.
