Job Description
What you can expect in a typical day
As a Process Engineer supporting the largest oil refinery in Canada and our terminal network, you will work with a team of engineers, and cross-functional teams to optimize the process units within our operations. This role will primarily be focused on energy, utilities, and oil movements optimization. As the owner of various initiatives, you will work with the team from conception to completion to track performance, identify opportunities, and recommend solutions to improve overall performance.

Job Description
What you can expect in a typical day
As a Process Engineer supporting the largest oil refinery in Canada and our terminal network, you will work with a team of engineers, and cross-functional teams to optimize the process units within our operations. This role will primarily be focused on energy, utilities, and oil movements optimization. As the owner of various initiatives, you will work with the team from conception to completion to track performance, identify opportunities, and recommend solutions to improve overall performance.

Your roles and responsibilities:
- Support future energy related capital projects, interacting with cross functional teams across the organization.
- Develop and implement plans for problem solving and complex design completion, as well as other improvement initiatives taking into account multiple aspects such as: safe operations, process requirements, budget, impacts on operator effectiveness, and hazards.
- Manage complex areas, tasks, and functions.
- Perform quality and routine procedure reviews; develop process improvements related to capital projects.
- Support day-to-day troubleshooting as required.
- Keep cross-functional leaders informed of project progress and status updates.
- Monitor and design key best practices to improve refinery operations.
- Remain current on emerging refining technologies.
Professional skills
- Safety as-a-way-of-life mindset.
- Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You enjoy figuring out the root of problems and designing better processes and procedures to minimize or eliminate them.
- 5+ years of field experience troubleshooting in an operational plant.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with engineering software programs.
- Able to work in the field: this includes working in year-round weather conditions, able to bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, etc. and able to lift up to 20lbs. You must be comfortable with high elevation climbing, working at heights, and in enclosed spaces. You must be able to wear full PPE as required by safety standards.
Education and experience
- University degree in chemical engineering.
- 7+ years of process engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably in a complex, downstream operation.
- P. Eng. certification required.
