Job Description
What you can expect in a typical day:
As a summer student with Irving Oil you will have an opportunity to learn in a collaborative environment with one of Canada's Top 100 employers! In this role with the Middle Office and Quantitative Analytics team, you will have a unique opportunity to learn about our physical and financial trading operations. You will communicate with various stakeholders throughout the company, providing the opportunity to enhance your communication skills. This role will also give you the opportunity to problem solve and apply critical thinking skills on a daily basis.
In this role, you will assist the Middle Office with Commodity Risk Management (CRM) policy compliance reporting through daily trade valuation & risk reporting as part of our Commodity Risk Management program governance & performance measurement. This position will also support model development activities of our Quantitative Analytics team. Specifically, you will:
  • Assist with the preparation of daily Middle Office reports (e.g. Commodity Risk Management Governance Report), including running models, gathering data, and/or reviewing reports for completeness and accuracy
  • Assist in the performance of risk management activities pertaining to executed derivative transactions to ensure valuations are accurate and reliable for financial reporting purposes. Activities include, but are not limited to, forward curve generation, mark-to-market calculation, reconciliation of futures contracts and approval/verification of swap and option contracts within the trade management system
  • Update existing IP4 documentation for Middle Office to ensure documentation of financial controls is accurately captured
  • Support members of Quantitative Analytics team with research, model development, data gathering, and/or model documentation

Education and Experience:
  • Currently enrolled in a Business Administration program completing 2nd or 3rd year of study with a strong interest in accounting

  • Must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and be returning to school in the Fall 2023
