Since 2012, we have invested more than $400 million in facilities, people, processes, and technology, making Halifax Shipyard one of the most modern and capable shipyards in North America. Over the next 30 years our shipbuilders will construct 20 modern patrol ships and surface combatants for the Royal Canadian Navy as part of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy, the largest defence procurement in Canadian history. This year we delivered the second lead Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship, the largest Navy ship built in Canada in 50 years and we're just getting started. The third ship will be delivered in 2022.

Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Junior Engineer, Outfit/Hull/Naval.

The Junior Engineer, Outfit/Hull/Naval will be responsible for functional engineering activities related to general naval architecture, hull structure, and/or outfit for the Artic Offshore Patrol Vessel Project at Irving Shipbuilding Inc. This will include but is not limited to the collaborative development and review of deliverables that may be provided by Subcontractors as well as the development of corresponding prime contract deliverables. This role will report to the functional engineering team lead, Hull Outfit/Naval AOPS.
Qualifications:

• Degree in Naval Architecture, mechanical engineering, or similar
• Registered E.I.T. an asset
• 1-2 years of ship design experience
• Experience working with classification society rules and classification societies to achieve plan approval for vessel designs and products an asset
• Experience working on naval ship design, commercial shipbuilding, or other large military procurement program an asset
• Experience preparing design products for a ship design or major ship upgrade design program an asset
• Strong personal time management skills
• Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in English, both orally and in writing
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Experience producing technical documents an asset

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Key Responsibilities:

• Ownership of several systems in new construction projects
• Analysis and definition of system requirements which impact the ability of the AOPS design to achieve project defined margins
• Analysis and definition of system requirements which impact the ability of the AOPS design to achieve classification society design approvals and certificates from certification authorities
• Review vendor products
• Liaise with the Customer as required
• Liaise with the Design Agent to develop Functional Design product and support integration of the vendor's design data.
• Propose design and process improvements related to vessel producibility, shipyard safety, and production performance where applicable
• Assist with change management activities
• Provide engineering support as required to internal shipyard customers
• Support a culture of teamwork, enthusiasm, and proactive behavior within the team
• Responsibilities may change over time
