Financial Controller

Under One Sky is a vibrant and caring community hub, providing programs and services, educating, advocating for, and empowering a healthy and proud Indigenous Community. Under One Sky invites applications for a Financial Controller to support our growing organization.

Reporting to Under One Sky's Director of Operations, this senior level position is responsible to oversee all accounting functions of the organization including budgeting, forecasting, cash management and internal controls.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting entries to the general ledger for expenses and revenues for a variety of funded programs and social enterprises, review balances, correcting entries or procedures to improve accuracy in accounts.
  • Coordinate the preparation of all financial reports, forecasts, profit and expense statements and other reports supporting program financials.
  • Provide direction to Finance Coordinator and ensure all accounts payable and receivables are paid and received in a timely manner and provide follow-up as required.
  • Ensure government filings are completed on time and as per legislative requirements and that funding/grant reporting is filed as required.
  • Monitor cash management.
  • Oversee and provide direction to Finance Coordinator and ensure payroll is processed in a timely manner, trouble shoot as required.
  • Oversee the coordination of reports required for auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved and the preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with federal, provincial and other required supplementary schedules and information.
  • Maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization and oversee federal awards and programs.
  • Provide business analysis on trends, issues and developments that could impact the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Post-secondary education in business administration with a strong focus in accounting and/or 5-10 years of progressively increasing level of role and responsibility.
  • Superior written and spoken communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector.
  • Results oriented, attention to detail and open minded towards change.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to continual process improvement.
  • A Criminal Background/ Vulnerable Sector and Social Development check is required.
