About Strescon Limited
Established in 1963, Strescon Limited has grown to become the largest precast, pre-stressed concrete manufacturer in Eastern Canada. Its primary market covers the Atlantic Provinces and the New England region of the United States. Strescon manufactures a wide range of both architectural and structural precast/prestressed concrete products including bridge girders, wall panels, complete parking garages, hollow-core planking, piling and deck slabs. Strescon presently has two facilities: 70,000 sq.ft. in Saint John, New Brunswick and 50,000 sq.ft. In Bedford, Nova Scotia.
In addition to our engineered precast facilities for custom components, Strescon also operates a 32,000 sq. ft. facility in Saint John which manufactures standard concrete products for engineered drainage systems, such as pipe, manholes and catch basins.
Job Summary
The Plant Superintendent directs operations within the production plant and yard. This includes planning production to ensure project schedules are kept while adhering to safety processes and meeting quality standards. The role will also include providing recommendations to continuously improve the organization's overall production plans, systems, and procedures. This position requires a solid understanding of operations combined with the desire to develop and maintain relationships within a diverse workforce.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily requirements of the Assistant Plant Superintendent and Lead Hands
  • Plan, organize and direct day-to-day operations
  • Be responsible for production output and product quality, including daily reviews of production with the Quality Control Inspector
  • Allocate crews, tools and equipment effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results
  • Participate in creating and maintaining facility budgets
  • Manage time allocation/approval, training, promotion, and any respective schedules
  • Monitor operations and initiate corrective actions as required
  • Collect and analyze data to identify areas of improvement
  • Commit to plant safety procedures
  • Use the systems and processes that track and improve productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets
  • Address employees' issues or grievances
  • Additional duties as assigned

Technical Requirements
  • Two-year Engineering Technology diploma or relevant education or experience
  • Previous experience overseeing / managing a plant in a concrete or construction environment is an asset
  • Ability to train on business and management principles such as budgeting, resource allocation and human resources
  • Familiarity surrounding safety, quality, productivity, and inventory
  • Experience using a computerized software package for coordination purposes is beneficial
  • Preventative Maintenance / Work Order Management experience is an asset
  • Ability to understand construction drawings
  • Experience working with unionized employees
