Corporate Technical Manager, Papermaking

We also manufacture private label diapers and training pants for North American retailers.
The Corporate Technical Manager, Papermaking will be based out of Toronto, Ontario (1551 Weston Road, M6M 4Y4). The Corporate Technical Manager, Papermaking is accountable for the technical initiatives in their portfolio at all sites. This role is responsible for assisting in the building of, and managing, the 3-year Technical development plan and following through on all the action items associated with it. Reporting to the VP, Technical, this position will support the sites, the Product Development team, and their fellow Technical team members on initiatives to improve paper making capabilities. This is a permanent, full-time position. The primary language of work is English.

Job Requirements:
  • Experience: 10-15 years of relevant work experience;
  • Education: Post-secondary degree in Engineering or Technology related field, or equivalent experience;
  • Thorough paper making process knowledge;
  • Superior capacity of understanding new concepts and processes and applying them correctly;
  • Self-starter, self-driven, able to take initiative and ownership;
  • Project management experience;
  • A3 and Gantt chart knowledge;
  • Strong presentation and communication skills at both leadership and floor levels;
  • Leadership, mentoring, and coaching ability;
  • Willing to travel, approximately 25% of the time;
  • Pulp Mill process knowledge is an asset;
  • Yankee Dryer management systems knowledge is an asset.

The main duties/responsibilities of this role include:
Product Improvement:
  • Ownership of technical development initiatives within respective portfolio;
  • Host frequent trials at site as required;
  • Planning and coordinating upcoming testing;
  • Reviewing and analyzing testing results, preparing reports.

  • Drive and develop processes and basesheet attributes;
  • Coordinating with OEMs and suppliers on new product/trial requirements;
  • Running trials to test new developments;
  • Consider financial impact and discuss with leaders on profitability, influence budget.

  • Monthly meetings with Product Development team;
  • Meet with sites to ensure alignment between each plant and centralized technical teams;
  • Influence changes, bring ideas/developments to a site level.

  • Travel to and support site initiatives;
  • Visit with customers to provide technical support;
  • Help coordinate technical training to engage talent;
  • Mentor junior engineers.
