Located at 3099 Barrington Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, B3K 5M7, and 35 Micmac Boulevard, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, B3A 4Y8, Irving Shipbuilding has a proud history as Canada's shipbuilder. Irving, Limited group of companies, we have been building quality vessels and fabricated modules for more than 50 years, and our Halifax Shipyard has been at the forefront of Canadian shipbuilding for 130 years.
Since 2012, we have invested more than $400 million in facilities, people, processes, and technology, making Halifax Shipyard one of the most modern and capable shipyards in North America. Over the next 30 years our shipbuilders will construct 20 modern patrol ships and surface combatants for the Royal Canadian Navy as part of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy, the largest defence procurement in Canadian history. This year we delivered the second lead Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship, the largest Navy ship built in Canada in 50 years and we're just getting started. The third ship will be delivered in 2022.

Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking aCombat Systems Specialist, Above Water Sensors.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English. Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary Education relevant to AWS or Equivalent;
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in a role or roles related to AWS (Radar, IFF, Effector Control, Electro Optical ...) systems;
  • Experience in the operation, integration, installation, and test of AWS and CS systems;
  • Experience in working within cross-functional technical group;
  • Knowledge of Combat System architecture;
  • Detailed knowledge of complex organization;
  • Project management experience;
  • Familiar with ships construction;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (Both official language proficiency an asset).

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assisting the Capability Manager - AWS and wider CS team with:
    • Participating in, and chairing where required, applicable CSC Working Groups to coordinate and manage all stakeholder interests regarding assigned CSC AWS systems;
    • Providing technical expertise during requirement definition, design, integration, and test activities to ensure fully compliant and certifiable assigned CSC AWS systems are provided for CSC;
    • Ensuring that the physical and functional interfaces of assigned CSC AWS systems, are identified, defined, and approved via Interface Control Documents as applicable;
    • Providing technical expertise in the development, documentation, and evaluation of deliverables related to the requirements definition, design, integration, and test of assigned CSC AWS systems;
    • Evaluating engineering change to ensure that impacts, risks, and issues related to design, integration, test, and acceptance activities are understood and recorded;
    • Providing accurate status reports on assigned activities to the Capability Manager - AWS;
  • Fulfilling the above roles by:
    • Providing knowledge and insight into the operational employment of AWS systems and all associated processes to ensure valid solutions for the RCN;
    • Providing technical expertise in AWS related safety hazards;
    • Providing technical expertise regarding architecture and functions associated with AWS systems;
    • Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal (Halifax Shipyard, CSC Program personnel) and external stakeholders (subcontractors and Canadian government staff); and;
    • Supporting a culture of teamwork, pro-activeness, and enthusiasm within the Combat System team, and be a role model for professional behavior.
