Job Description
What you can expect in a typical day
We are seeking a Turnaround Scheduler to join our team at our refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick. In this position, you will support the many capital, turnaround, and construction projects that take place each year while working closely with planners, block leads, lead scheduler and project controls. You will be responsible to develop detailed project schedules in support of Irving Oil's annual Maintenance Turnaround events. You will also search for and drive the most efficient use of all resources. As an experienced Scheduler, you know how to produce accurate and credible deliverables, to support the successful execution of our projects.

Your roles and responsibilities:
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining the fully integrated, resource loaded & logic linked schedules
  • Coordinate schedule development with construction planners, coordinators, operations, and Outage manager, Project Management, Project Controls and others as required.
  • Lead schedule review meetings to ensure proper logic, prioritization, resource utilization, logistics and constraints are properly represented in the schedule.
  • Analyze and communicate schedule data including; critical & near-critical paths, schedule risks and opportunities, craft resources requirements and histograms, forecasting, schedule performance (SPI), physical progress (% comp), and float analysis.
  • Optimize resource utilization through resource leveling and density analysis.
  • Proactively identify schedule issues, risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure Field Change Notifications are properly represented in the schedule (activities and resources) in a timely manner. Coordinate and interface with Cost Control to ensure forecasts are properly represented.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate delivery of contractor schedule & progress-related reports and deliverables.
  • Work in accordance to schedule practices and procedures and industry best practice.

Professional skills
  • Proven ability to maintain good working relationships with stakeholders including senior leaders.
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and written, including presentations.
  • Experience dealing with multiple priorities and deadlines / proven ability to meet hard deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic, produces accurate and credible deliverables, meets deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of MS office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Education and experience
  • Must have post-secondary education in a construction trade, engineering, engineering technology. Planning experience preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in developing level 3, 4 and 5 schedules using Primavera P6 on turnarounds/Outages and/or capital projects in the Oil and Gas, Nuclear, Power or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of construction execution.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills including collaboration other teams including engineering, procurement & contracts, construction, safety, quality, finance/accounting, operations and 3rd party vendors/suppliers.
  • Must have a strong understanding cost estimating utilizing a bottom up approach from the schedule.
