Job Description
What you can expect in a typical day:
We are looking for a Lead Scheduler to join us in managing and overseeing the planning and scheduling of Engineering Resources working on capital and expense projects that take place each year at our refineries, marine and land terminals, and retail sites. We are looking for individuals with a strong understanding of the fundamentals of a multi-disciplined Engineering team in an Oil and Gas projects environment.This position may have a small team (1-3) of direct reports in the future.If you are a logical thinker, have strong experience developing and managing project schedules, and enjoy coaching and mentoring others, this could be a great opportunity for you.

Your Role and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely and proactively with Business Unit project teams to plan and maintain integrated project schedules.
  • Provide strong technical leadership to drive the quality of project schedules, specifically for engineering activities.
  • Status multiple project schedules on a weekly basis.
  • Analyze and report out on schedule performance; float, critical path, earned value, CPI, SPI, variances analysis.
  • Lead multi-discipline workshops to develop new engineering schedules and modify existing engineering schedules in the event of execution plan changes.
  • Lead a small scheduling team, providing mentorship and coaching.
  • Lead the design and execution of innovative new processes and tools to plan and manage engineering schedules.
  • Optimize resource utilization through resource levelling.

Professional Skills:
  • Know how to 'make a plan'; logically decompose project scopes (product & project) into logically linked activities.
  • Expert level user of scheduling software; MS Project or Primavera P6.
  • Know how to manage the impact of schedule changes and trends.
  • Know how to measure schedule performance; Cost Performance Index (CPI), and Schedule Performance Index (SPI).
  • Working knowledge of Risk Management principles and methodologies.
  • Understand the workings of a cross-functional team; engineering / procurement / construction / operations / etc.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team that includes the end customer, engineering disciplines, execution management team, and vendors.
  • Strong experience applying skills and methods for managing schedules that are recognized by industries bodies such as PMI.
  • A sound understanding of project delivery phases, activities performed in each phase, associated deliverables, and how these affect schedules.
  • Ability to analyze schedules, see trends, and provide recommendations to keep projects on track.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Well organized and have ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Proficient with MS Products: Teams, Sharepoint, Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Travel:
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Education and experience:
  • Minimum 15 years of Project experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in the Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience of recent project planning and scheduling.
  • Post-secondary education in engineering, engineering technology is an asset.
  • PMI certification(s) a very strong asset: PMP, PMI-SP.
