Role Summary
The cook functions as an accountable member of the Dietary Department under supervision of the Head Cook and Dietary Manager. The cook oversees the kitchen in regard to the preparation and cooking of foods.


  • Journeyman Cook's Papers (Red Seal) preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience cooking in a health care or similar environment.
  • Grade XII or Equivalent
  • Food Handler's Course
  • Knowledge of and experience with application of:
  • Routine Practices
  • Infection Control

Performance Requirements:

  • Must be able to work independently and make decisions regarding menu changes, diet requests for residents, etc.
  • Considerable walking and standing.
  • Lifting and stretching.
  • Stressful situations when dealing with the elderly, their families and the public.
  • Operation of machines (dietary).
  • Good health as evidenced by attendance record.
  • Caring attitude towards residents of Seaview Manor.
  • Ability to communicate in a pleasant, appropriate manner with the elderly and the public and co-workers
