Senior Legal Counsel - Securities

We are seeking a self-motivated, goal oriented legal professional with a broad range of skills to join our team in the Securities Division. As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will work with other lawyers and staff in the Securities Division on legal, regulatory and policy projects that are assigned to or generated within the Division. You will also collaborate and work closely with other securities regulators and partners across Canada through your participation on various national Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) committees and initiatives.

The successful incumbent will participate on various local and national legal, regulatory and policy initiatives, while advancing New Brunswick's interests therein. This position will also oversee the publication of regulatory instruments function and staff within the Securities Division.

You are well organized, can handle competing demands while achieving deadlines and enjoy a variety of work challenges. You will serve on national committees with other securities regulators and some travel will be expected. You possess excellent oral and written communications skills and strong analytical skills. You are able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director in the Saint John office.

Other qualifications include:

  • A degree in law;
  • 7+ years related work experience, preferably with knowledge and experience in securities, corporate law or administrative law;
  • Understanding of legislation/regulation-making process is an asset;
  • Fluency in both English and French (both oral and written);
  • Detail-oriented and strong writing skills;
  • Proficient computer skills in a variety of software applications;
  • Knowledge of the securities or other financial services industries and capital markets is an asset.
