Job Summary

The Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients in all areas of the division; including prep/recovery, pacemaker, implantable Cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), pre-admission services and Cath Lab procedure rooms. The Registered Nurse IC in the Cath Lab may occasionally be required to provide nursing care to patients in the ECG department and is expected to assume "charge nurse" responsibilities as assigned.

  • Constantly moves/lifts up to 10 lbs., regularly moves/lifts up to 25 lbs. and occasionally is required to restrain/reposition/move/ lift up to 30 lbs. Pushes/pulls up to medium force.
  • Routinely required to wear lead radiation protective attire (ie: lean apron) during the duration of shifts (approx. 20 pounds).
  • Constantly stands/walks and works in awkward or cramped positions to assist with procedures.
  • Constantly uses fine finger/precision, auditory, sensory and visual concentration to provide and conduct risk assessments, observe/monitor patients, to complete documents, follow directions, administer medications, etc.
  • May be subject to time pressures/deadlines and subject to lack of control over work pace.

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and a current, active registration with the CRNNL.
  • Current cardiac/critical care experience is required (2 years' experience within the last 4 years).
  • Must have thorough knowledge and skills in adult cardiac/critical care nursing.
  • Must be proficient in cardiac rhythm interpretation; hemodynamic assessment and monitoring; care and management of acute unstable coronary patients; use of temporary cardiac pacing; administration of intravenous inotropes and vasodilators.
  • Current certification BLS. ACLS certification will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment; demonstrated competency in organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills; evidence of active participation in professional growth and development.
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
