Legal Counsel - Securities (Saint John office)

We are seeking a self-motivated, goal oriented legal professional who will be tasked with researching, preparing memos and providing legal opinions with respect to issues that are assigned to or that are generated within the division. Specific legal and policy initiatives may require a significant devotion of time and effort in order to properly address the initiative and in order to make sound recommendations to decision-makers.

The successful incumbent will participate on national CSA (Canadian Securities Administrators) committees and initiatives and advance New Brunswick's interests therein, participate in the development of local and national policy and legislative matters and conduct legal research. This position will also provide legal and strategic advice with respect to the division's corporate finance matters.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director in the Saint John office.

You are well organized, can handle competing demands while achieving deadlines and enjoy a variety of work challenges. You will serve on national committees with other securities regulators and some travel will be expected. You possess excellent oral and written communications skills and strong analytical skills. You are able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Other qualifications include:

  • A degree in law;
  • 5 - 7 years related work experience, preferably with knowledge and experience in corporate or administrative law;
  • Understanding of legislation/regulation-making process is an asset;
  • Fluency in both English and French is an asset;
  • Proficient computer skills in a variety of software applications;
  • Knowledge of the securities or other financial services industries and capital markets is an asset.
