CSC Risk Manager

Over the next 30 years our shipbuilders will construct 23 modern patrol ships and surface combatants for the Royal Canadian Navy as part of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy, the largest defence procurement in Canadian history.
This year, we will deliver the lead Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship, the largest Navy ship built in Canada in 50 years. And we're just getting started. We have built more than 80% of Canada's current combatant fleet and continue to perform maintenance and modernization work on the ships, including the Halifax-class frigates.

This is a permanent full-time position, located in Halifax, NS, Canada at our 35 Mic Mac Blvd. location. This position will report to the Manager, Project Controls and will be responsible for effective risk management across all project functions. The successful candidate will be expected to lead the delivery of risk management processes, tools, and controls, developing those aspects when improvements are needed, and communicate risk policies and processes to the Project Team.
Key Responsibilities:
Working as part of the CSC Project Controls Team, this role is primarily focused on the effective management and delivery of risk plans, processes, procedures, tools, and controls in support of the delivery of the CSC Project. In addition, the successful candidate ensure continuous improvement of these processes. The role will assist managers to identify risks and / or issues and implement mitigating measures. This role will liaise with the customer and Design Subcontractor as required.
The CSC Risk Manager role will:
  • Implement the overall risk management process for the project;
  • Develop risk plans, processes, and procedures as required
  • Tailor risk reporting to relevant audiences;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Liaise with all departments to ensure project data is aligned;
  • Build awareness of risks and risk management philosophy, concepts, methods, and tools amongst staff by providing support and training within the project team; and
  • Support a culture of teamwork, enthusiasm and a proactive nature within the team.

Qualification & Experience:
  • Degree or other tertiary qualifications in a discipline of Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Project Management, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in the following fields:
    • Risk Management in a project management, shipbuilding, or engineering environment, with large, complex projects
    • Project Management or Engineering on large, complex defence projects
    • Experience in project controls, tools, performance management, scheduling and project delivery
    • Experience managing risk catalogs and performing risk assessments
    • Experience in negotiating, mediating and facilitating discussions with key stakeholders to achieve consensus
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Demonstrated strong communication and facilitation skills
    • Solid knowledge of risk management principles, concepts, standards (e.g., ISO 31000, COSO ERM), practices and tools
  • Intermediate experience with an industry recognized Risk Management tool such as Predict is desired
