Landmark East is an independent co-ed day and boarding school for students with learning differences located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, a small university town nestled in the Annapolis Valley. The student base is diverse with learners who have average or higher cognitive ability and have been diagnosed in a variety of areas such as high functioning Autism, Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder and more that can make learning challenging in a traditional school setting. Landmark East School is a registered charity and actively fundraises to provide student bursaries. Landmark East School is one of three designated special education private schools in Nova Scotia. Academic programs are approved by the Nova Scotia Department of Education.

Position Summary

The Admissions and Marketing Specialist (Traditional and Digital) will provide quality introductory experiences for all students and their families. The ideal candidate for this position will be a dynamic, personable team player who is enthusiastic about young learners and developing relationships. Working with the Admissions Committee, the ideal candidate will play a key role in attracting and enrolling appropriate students to the school as well as marketing the school to the local and global communities. He/she will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with students, families, alumni and referral sources throughout Nova Scotia, nationally and internationally.

Position Details

The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of School and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Data management including weekly and monthly admissions tracking and reporting, as well as establishing and maintaining an enrolment management system
  • Provide accurate and timely responses to inquiries from parents and professionals by phone, email, in writing and in person
  • Follow up with admissions inquiries
  • Maintain and distribute admissions information packages
  • Arrange visits and follow up on scheduled timeline
  • Direct students and families through the admissions process from introduction to acceptance
  • Provide continual support and guidance for prospective students and parents through one-on-one meetings, emails and phone calls
  • Maintain admissions files
  • Invite prospective families and applicants to school events throughout the year
  • Arrange student ambassadors for events/tours
  • Assist students and their families with bursary application process during admissions
  • Prepare statistics on student enrolment, retention and attrition
  • Develop and foster relationships with key stakeholders
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of strong alumni relationships
  • Maintain school prospectus and marketing materials
  • Work closely with the school administration in the development of coordinated, quality marketing through various means, including print and electronic material
  • Brainstorm and develop ideas for creative marketing campaigns
  • Conduct market research to find answers about consumer requirements, habits and trends
  • Assist in analysing marketing data (campaign results, conversion rates, traffic etc.) to help shape future marketing strategies
  • Plan and execute initiatives to reach the target audience through appropriate channels (social media, email, radio, etc.)
  • Assist in outbound or inbound marketing activities by demonstrating expertise in various areas (content development and optimization, advertising, event planning, etc.)
  • Undertake individual tasks of a marketing plan as assigned
  • Participate in Landmark East School's fundraising events

Required Skills and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in sales, marketing, communication, education, public relations, graphic design or equivalent experience
  • Be collegial and possess excellent interpersonal skills with an eagerness to work across multiple departments
  • Possess excellent communications skills in order to deal effectively with students, parents and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally
  • Ability to work with discretion, on tight deadlines, while maintaining fine attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • The role will require someone who is organized, adaptable, resourceful and cooperative, anticipating potential problems and taking the initiative to plan accordingly
  • Strong knowledge of database and information systems, MS Word, Excel and Google Docs
  • Ability to travel in Canada and internationally
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's Licence with full time access to vehicle
  • Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Child Abuse Registry Check

Preferred Skills

  • Minimum of five years of experience in admissions/marketing or similar field (e.g., sales, promotions)
  • Knowledge of learning differences through education or experience
