What you can expect in a typical day
As one of the Terminal Operators at our Halifax Harbour location, you are responsible for ensuring the safe and accurate unloading of product and recording of inventory. You must adhere to established operating procedures and guidelines that have been aligned with corporate and industry standards so that our daily operations continue to ensure efficiency, effectiveness of equipment, inventory, and quality control of the 5 - 22 millions gallons plus of product handled at this terminal. This position requires the ability to work rotational shifts including nights, weekends, and flexibility to cover on-call requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Balance inventory supply through gauging tanks and completing inventory reconciliation to ensure prevention of product loss and maintain an accurate inventory system.
  • Supervise the discharging of physical product from trucks and ships by ensuring equipment is properly assembled and monitored.
  • Receive product by gauging tanks, reconciling inventory, and ensuring equipment is properly assembled as a means of maintaining inventory and protecting the company from environmental emergencies.
  • Sample and test incoming produce and inventory supply to ensure high quality product standards.
  • Perform preventative maintenance through the completion of regular checklists on equipment to ensure maximum utilization and longer life span.
  • Ensure efficient operations of terminal by scheduling dedicated resources to allow optimization of activities.
  • Ability to recognize customer needs and develop solutions for customers.
  • Efficiently and safely multi-task operational duties and manage your time effectively.
  • Ability to recognize hazards, prioritize, and mitigate them.
  • You must be able to climb steps, stairs, and ladders up to 50' above ground level.
  • Able to work on or near the water wearing PFD and other required safety gear; follow all safety protocols and procedures to work safely around rotating equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather, year-round.

Travel
  • Travel is not a requirement for this position.

Education and experience
  • Post-secondary education in industrial trade or technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in marine terminal operations or similar Material Handing experience is an asset.
  • Experience in handling hazardous materials (TDGR - Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations).
