SUPERVISOR MENTOR/COACH
Irving Shipbuilding, located at 3099 Barrington Street Halifax NS B3K 5M7, is part of the J.D. Irving Group of companies and is in the business of building quality ships and repairing vessels. The company's primary site is Halifax Shipyard, with three other locations in the Maritime Provinces. Irving Shipbuilding is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defense and the Canadian Coast Guard. Reporting to the Director of Production Training and Development, the Supervisor Mentor/Coach will have responsibility to lead and assist their peer group in developing specific skill sets and knowledge that will enhance their professional growth and team results. Duties may also include supervising a team of trades employees at the shipyard.
Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking multiple permanent full-time staff Supervisor Mentor/Coaches to be based in Halifax, NS.
Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of current supervisory experience for trades in a "new build" naval shipbuilding environment
  • At least 3 years trades work experience in a "new build" naval shipbuilding environment
  • Experience mentoring, training and/or coaching
  • Significant shipbuilding experience is mandatory
  • Demonstrated leadership success in the following areas:

  • Building high performing teams

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

  • Identify common and specific areas for development (group and individual)
  • Implement strategies and support for peer development including implementing and sustaining a daily management system
  • Lead one on one development as required
  • Network with high performing peers
  • Deliver trade specific training
  • Lead teams of trades employees to effectively carry out work activities
  • Schedule required work activities
  • Budgeting and work scope for specific projects
  • Monitor work unit progress and evaluate results
