The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour is seeking an individual to join the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission as a Mediator in Fredericton.

As a member of the Mediation team and reporting to the Legal Counsel and Head of Mediation, the successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills and demonstrate the ability to identify differences between parties, and formulate successful conflict resolution strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and leading mediation and conciliation strategies related to complaints of discrimination as defined in the Act.
  • Providing strategic advice, briefs and analysis to Management and the Commission's members.
  • Coordinating activities with intake and investigation functions.
  • Preparing and delivering reports and presentations to various audiences.
  • Liaising with public and private sector organizations.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A university degree in Law, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or related discipline; and have a minimum of three (3) years' experience in mediation and/or conflict resolution, and a minimum of three (3) years' experience in one of the following: human rights legislation, law enforcement or employment law. An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Recognized training or certification in mediation or dispute resolution;
  • Experience as a human rights officer.

The following operational requirement is also required: A valid driver's license will be required as the position requires travel.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: The successful candidate will possess the following behavioural competencies: Effective Interactive Communication; Client Service Orientation; Teamwork and Cooperation; Information Seeking; Analytical Thinking/Judgment.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: The successful candidate will possess the following technical competencies: Knowledge of Conflict Management Practices; Written Communication.

Salary: From $2,099 to $2,598 bi-weekly.
