What you can expect in a typical day:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Director, Human Resources Operations, to drive change and evolve our employee experience while continuously attracting, retaining, and engaging our diverse workforce. Reporting to the Senior Director, Human Resources Operations, the key priorities for this role will include a focus on Leadership, Safety and Culture, and the achievement of HR Excellence. As part of a global Human Resources team, this role is based in Saint John, New Brunswick with responsibility to manage and oversee the human resources management functions for the Refining and Supply business of Irving Oil Limited.
What youll need to succeed:
  • Be a strategic partner to the Refining and Supply leadership team.
  • Understand the business strategic priorities and support consistent execution and implementation.
  • Participate in the strategic, operational, and human resources planning processes.
  • Advise business leadership on organizational design that will enable the business to grow and operate effectively through evaluating organization structures, job design, and workforce planning.
  • Support execution of a Human Resources Plan to evolve leadership effectiveness and development.
  • Be actively visible in key business and organization wide events as part of the broader HR team.
  • Lead initiatives in change management, employee experience, organizational effectiveness, training, recruitment, and employment legislation
  • Evolve and execute on talent management programs aimed at succession planning, performance management and development, diversity and inclusion, and career development.
  • Collaborate with HR Operations Directors to drive consistency in process, implementation of policies, and programs across multiple lines of business in support of a One Company approach.
  • Lead a team of Human Resources professionals to support a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace.
  • Identify and mitigate risks through a strong understanding of employment legislation, regulatory, and compliance requirements as they relate to employment practices and policies.
  • Manage HR operations financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements, trends, and variances; monitor spend against budget.

Travel
  • Travel within Canada and the U.S. is a requirement. Some international travel may also be necessary.

Education and experience
  • Bachelors degree in Business, Human Relations or related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years progressive Human Resources leadership experience.
  • Experience navigating and influencing in a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in all aspects of HR.
  • Proven success in leading consistent execution of HR policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record in leading culture change and transformational initiatives.
  • Exceptional relationship building, customer service and communication skills.
  • Visible, hands-on people leader.
  • Able to achieve results through influence and others.
  • Results-oriented, strong organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to deal with sensitive, confidential employee relations.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, ever changing, and complex work environment.
  • Able to demonstrate a collaborative and flexible approach to problem solving through broad-based thinking.
  • Must be flexible and be willing to change as business needs arise.
  • Business operations, health and safety, and /or experience with front-line operations considered an asset.
