WorkSafeNB is accepting applications for a casual position of rehabilitation assistant in Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick.

Reporting to a manager in the work recovery program, the rehabilitation assistant will act as a resource person in the treatment of clients, as directed by a therapist. These activities may include, but are not limited to, helping clients carry out various work activities and treatment routines; teaching woodworking activities; supervising clients during activities; assisting in maintaining cleanliness of the treatment areas and equipment; changing linen; maintaining safe working conditions and safe work habits in assigned areas; maintaining an adequate supply of ice, laundry and related supplies; and pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, as required by the position. The successful candidate will also make supplies available for clients, as directed by the therapists; observe clients during treatment and report progress to appropriate therapist; and monitor and report clients' attendance.

The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma, have previous experience interacting with people as a care provider within a health care setting, and have experience with woodworking and working with power tools. Knowledge and training in arts and crafts and certification as a rehabilitation assistant would be considered assets.

Written and spoken competence in English and spoken competence in French are required.

WorkSafeNB's mandate is to:

  • Promote the creation of a workplace safety culture in which all employees and employers view all occupational diseases and accidents as being preventable.
  • Promote an understanding, acceptance, and compliance with all legislation for which WorkSafeNB is responsible, including the enforcement of the OHS Act and regulations.
  • Provide timely compensation benefits, medical aid, rehabilitation, and safe return-to-work services to injured workers.
  • Provide sustainable insurance and insurance-related services to the employer community.
  • Represent stakeholders and provide recommendations and advice to government with respect to legislation, and publish such reports, studies, and recommendations WorkSafeNB considers advisable.

Assessments are affected by the level of activities in the province's workplaces, as are the resulting claims. There are also substantial assets that ensure WorkSafeNB will be able to provide the ongoing benefits promised to injured workers through a wage loss recovery insurance system. These funds are invested in the financial markets and investment returns are subject to the ups and downs of the marketplace.

WorkSafeNB's head office is located in Saint John. The WorkSafeNB Rehabilitation Centre is located in Grand Bay-Westfield. We also have offices in Bathurst, Grand Falls and Dieppe.
