The Department of Justice and Office of the Attorney General is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Assistant Deputy Attorney General (ADAG) for the Public Prosecution Services in Fredericton.

As a member of the Public Prosecutions team and reporting directly to the Deputy Attorney General, the successful candidate will coordinate and oversee all matters within the ambit of the Public Prosecution Services Branch, which includes the routine administration and conduct of all the Public Prosecution Services Branch prosecutions and proceedings.

As the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Assistant Deputy Attorney General acts through the Executive Director, the Regional Directors, and the Crown Prosecutors in discharging both administrative and operational responsibility for all prosecutions, proceedings, and related matters of the Public Prosecution Services Branch.

As chief counsel for the Attorney General, the Assistant Deputy Attorney General also provides legal advice to the Attorney General on all matters concerning the Public Prosecution Services Branch.

In carrying out such responsibilities the Assistant Deputy Attorney General performs the following tasks:

  • supervising the overall administration of the Public Prosecution Services Branch;
  • ensuring the implementation of, and compliance with, Attorney General, Public Prosecution Services polices;
  • advising the Deputy Attorney General regarding significant matters;
  • chairing the Branch Management Committee (BMC) meetings;
  • meeting with heads of the police, other investigative agencies, various other departments, and other agencies regarding the administration of matters relevant to the Public Prosecution Services Branch; and
  • carrying out such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General;
  • participating in periodic Senior Management Committee (SMC) meetings.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Law Degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of New Brunswick; a minimum of twelve (12) years of related experience, including experience in management of human and financial resources, and extensive criminal law experience in dealing with increasingly complex and specialized criminal files.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

SALARY: from $ 125,892 to $ 150,592 annually, depending on education and experience.
