We are looking for an Accounting Manager to join our client's team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for the financial reporting and billing processes, providing accurate information to management, assisting with cash management and with various other special projects as required.

Responsibilities will also include:

  • Preparing and posting month end accruals, prepaids, payroll and other journal entries to ensure accuracy of monthly reporting
  • Reconciling various clearing accounts and addressing action items as required
  • Drafting of monthly, quarterly and annual operating results, including explanations for variances to budget
  • Reviewing the coding of accounts payable invoices to ensure accuracy of the allocated department, account code and capitalization treatment
  • Reviewing weekly and monthly bank reconciliations 
  • Drafting customer invoices and managing the timing of invoicing to optimize cash inflows
  • Ensuring rapid and consistent collection of receivables
  • Coordinating audits and preparation of audited financial statements, with support from the Controller
  • Providing assistance with new systems selection and implementation as required
  • Assisting with implementation and management of internal controls with respect to financial policies, processes and procedures, ensuring that activities and processes are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures
  • Working with the Controller to improve internal operating efficiency

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Current CPA designation or working towards the practical component of the CPA designation
  • Experience in public accounting is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in accounting is required
  • Experience with financial reporting and full cycle accounting
  • Strong problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to make necessary decisions
  • High level of critical and logical thinking and analysis
  • Good project management skills and the ability to produce quality work within tight timeframes
  • Strong proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem solving, and organizational skills are essential
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail in all areas of work
  • Supervisory experience is considered an asset
  • Experience assisting with audits performed by external audit firms would be considered an asset
