Senior Director of Health & Safety
For over 40 years, the Municipal Group of Companies has been serving Nova Scotia and beyond in a number of diversified business units with their ever-expanding service offerings which now include heavy civil construction, mining, transportation and environmental services. While Municipal Group represents strength in the construction industry and a solid reputation for performance beyond client expectations, they recognize that the key to their success lies in the hands of highly-skilled, world-class employees. Through their continued commitment to safety, the Municipal Group is looking to recruit a Senior Director of Health & Safety to be based in Halifax, NS.
As the Senior Director of Health & Safety, you will be part of the senior leadership team and responsible for overseeing the continued development and advancement of the corporate safety program, safety policies, training and education, ensuring any rules and regulations that fall under the Occupational Health and Safety Act applicable to company operations are incorporated. Leading a team of motivated Safety Managers, you'll provide strategic direction in an effort to integrate and streamline the existing safety programs of multiple business units into one cohesive company wide program. As part of the senior leadership team, you'll provide statistical data on accidents/incidents, severity and frequency rates, as well as coordinating with the training department to ensure training programs, courses and certificates are received by employees.
As the ideal candidate you have a formal background in health and safety including a professional safety designation, as well as 10 years of experience overseeing and executing company wide safety programs. Experience in the construction industry (or similar heavy industrial environment) would be considered an asset. You have a history of consolidating multiple programs into a cohesive strategy, designing and implementing solutions to address safety issues, mentoring junior staff and making decisions to advance company safety initiatives. Your strong communication skills give you the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization, presenting ideas in such a way that you gain buy-in easily from a variety of stakeholders. You have a proven ability to positively influence safety culture by being hands-on when necessary, and your style is listening and coaching over policing and penalizing. Self-directed, organized, and solutions oriented, you have strong planning and facilitation skills.
By joining the Municipal Group of Companies, you will be part of a growing organization that is committed to advancing their safety culture to the next level, creating a lasting impact for years to come. This is an opportunity to work with a senior leadership team that is dedicated to providing a supportive environment where you can enable change as needed. You will have a real impact on the organization's success by driving safety culture and using your experience to build on an existing safety program. In exchange for the knowledge and experience you bring, you will be rewarded with a comprehensive compensation, benefits and pension package.
