Located in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia, NSCAD University is one of Canada's oldest independent cultural institutions, and with three campuses within Halifax's downtown core, NSCAD is regarded as a principal centre for education and research in visual culture in North America. Formerly the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, NSCAD University is an internationally recognized centre for the study, practice, and teaching of visual arts, craft and design. Reporting to the President and Associate Vice President of University Relations, the Director, Marketing & Communications occupies a key position on the institutional advancement staff team. The Director, Marketing & Communications provides both strategic direction and hands on support to the University in the key areas of creative marketing, branding, communications, media relations and public relations. These functions will work in an integrated way to advance the mission of the University by building its reputation and attracting new resources, both human and material, to the University. While providing marketing and communications oversight to the University community generally, the Director will provide strategic communications and marketing advice and support in particular to the President and Vice-Presidents, focused on strengthening the reputation and brand of NSCAD in areas such as: Student Recruitment, Alumni Relations, Public Perceptions, Fund Raising and Future Development.
As the ideal candidate, you possess seven to ten years' progressive strategic marketing and communications experience. Demonstrated experience leading and managing integrated reputation and brand management will allow you to provide leadership in the development of the university's brand and assessing where it fits in the marketplace. Your expertise with a variety of marketing and communications media is paired with your experience in developing, implementing and measuring strategic marketing communications plans and programs. With your ability to develop relationships with key members of the media and manage media releases, you will ensure sustenance of a positive public regard for the university and will successfully advance its public profile and reputation. Your ability to liaise with all levels of an academic institution will allow you to excel within a complex, unionized environment. Working within your participative culture, marketing and communications staff members will strive for continuous improvement and overall university advancement of strategic objectives and priorities. With exceptional ability to prioritize and multi-task in a deadline conditioned working environment, the Director, Marketing & Communications is consultative as well as professionally capable of independent completion of projects. Experience with arts or higher education communications would be considered a strong asset. A Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a related field is required.
