Service New Brunswick is seeking an individual to join the Technology Services Division as an Application Database Administrator.

As a member of the Business Applications Branch, you will report to the Senior Database Administrator. You will design, install and monitor database management systems applications and ensures appropriate linkages to existing database applications and to other data processing systems.

You will provide technical guidance, work leadership and direction and have a high degree of technical proficiency in design of database applications and knowledge of the operating interrelationships between databases and the organization's other systems. You will ensure that procedures preserve the privacy, integrity and security of data.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Designing complex relational database schemas
  • Developing and maintaining database objects such as stored procedures, triggers, views, tables, indexes, etc
  • Developing and maintaining data integration solutions using ETL tools and custom scripts
  • Participating in the development and maintenance of database and application development standards and best practices
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring procedures to ensure information privacy and security
  • Providing technical support and problem resolution for application databases and coaching application programmers in the development of SQL queries
  • Working with vendors and other teams across SNB to implement solutions and to troubleshoot problems
  • Performing database server maintenance such as database backup and recovery, capacity planning, data integrity checks, server upgrades/migrations, etc
  • Monitoring and tuning of database server performance and SQL queries
  • Eliciting requirements from clients

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A university degree in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience, which includes a minimum of two (2) years experience with Microsoft SQL Server database development and server management. Subject to the response to this competition, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required.

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires flexibility in working hours, which includes some work during evenings and weekends.

Candidates will be required to undergo Criminal History Clearance prior to appointment.
