Our client provides solutions on a global scale within their industry and provides their clients with a wide range of leading solutions services. We are looking for an energetic Group Financial Controller to execute and oversee the corporate accounting for their global business. This position will be an approximate 14-month contract and will oversee the Financial Controllers who manage the global offices around the world. We are looking for a CPA designated professional for their Halifax, NS office, with the option to work from their Mississauga, ON location if desired. A strong proficiency with consolidation accounting, US GAAP and IFRS, accounting systems, data and Excel are strong assets. We are looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

Responsibilities in these core categories will include:

Management:

  • Oversee the accounting operations, including consolidation, accounts payable (AP) cycle, cash flow and regulatory reporting
  • Oversee productions of periodic financial reports for management review, internal and external audit function, and head office reporting
  • Oversee production of statutory accounts for the group and its various subsidiary companies, adhering to relevant accounting principles and legislation
  • Oversee periodic regulatory filings in all jurisdictions and manage monthly calculations
  • Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of all reports
  • Ensure the establishment of and compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee implementation and design for efficient and effective use of accounting systems
  • Develop and train direct accounting reports on an ongoing basis as needed

Transactions Management:

  • Oversee the AP process
  • Ensure periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  • Ensure required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Responsible for cash flow management, including detailed monthly analysis and forecast
  • Responsible for COA maintenance and design

Corporate Reporting:

  • Issue timely and accurate financial and management reports, including the proactive identification of reporting relevant to decision makers
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Manage intercompany arrangements including management fee allocations and modelling
  • Manage the production of annual budget and forecast and ongoing variance analysis of budget to actual results
  • Provide financial analysis as needed for cost pricing decisions and staffing
  • Maintain and track project costs
  • Support senior management with strategic initiatives
  • Regulatory reporting to government and other agencies
  • Coordinate the group audit with external audit
  • Ensure adequate transfer pricing and tax models are in place
  • Work closely with other departments on system and project work
  • Review company contracts and work with operations on contract negotiations and pricing
  • Involvement in purchase transactions, including the assessment, integration and ownership of financial statements and reporting
  • Work with the CFO in building a culture of continuous improvement

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Accounting designation with a minimum of five years post-designation experience in financial controls
  • Strong management skills with ability to work with remote location team members
  • Exceptional computer skills with an emphasis on Excel and the ability to analyze large amounts of data and the ability to produce reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work within tight deadlines and to work with minimal supervision
