Senior Accountant Role
Pay Rate: $25.00-32.00 per hour
Full-Time, Temporary Role - 3-6 month contract
Job Duties:
Ensures the data integrity of the financial records, monitors the college's adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and to CFIS provincial financial consolidation reporting guidelines by:
-Ensuring accounting transactions are recorded properly and on a timely basis
-Identifying general ledger errors and processing adjustments accordingly
-Reviewing and approving journal entries submitted by college staff
-Maintaining accounting records and processes related to capital assets
-Preparing monthly general ledger balance sheet account reconciliations
-Reviewing monthly general ledger balance sheet account reconciliations prepared by Financial Services staff for accuracy, completeness and to ensure appropriate action is taken to clear items held in suspense
-Submitting quarter end journal entries to record the allocation of postage and photocopy charges to college departments
-Reviewing and processing requests from college staff for changes to general ledger and purchase requisition approval security
-Coordinating the completion, in conjunction with the Senior Accountant, of the month end and year end general ledger close routines
-Responsible for the quarter end review of general ledger and purchase requisition security access for college staff
-Assisting college staff in investigating unusual or over budget revenue and expenses items as requested, generally in conjunction with fall budget and year end review
-Determining the sufficiency of accruals and follows through on outstanding items throughout the year which may involve travel to area campuses to discuss and record year end accrual transactions
-Submitting recommendations to the Manager, Financial Services for improving accounting processes and procedures
- Responsible for coordinating and allocating the work flow, reviewing the output and providing developmental feedback to other Financial services staff in consultation with the Manager, Financial Services
- Responsible for the annual renewal of the corporate insurance program, including the review of new or amended insurance coverage's, and in the periodic reporting of claims and other insurance related activities in conjunction with the Manager, Financial Services
Responsible for preparing:
-Quarter end and year consolidated college financial statements including the reconciliation of ministry grants
-Quarter end and year-end financial statements for the college's foundation
-Year-end supporting schedules
-Year-end CFIS consolidated financial statement submission to the ministry
-Year-end Charity Tax Returns for the college and the foundation for submission to the Canada Revenue Agency
- Prepares, analyzes and assists with other periodic financial projects, reports and schedules and provides information and analysis pertinent to the requests of college staff and external auditors
- Provides consulting services to college departments in such areas as payroll and pension regulations, audit concerns, year-end requirements, general ledger issues, provides FACS and LFACS (web) training to college staff and performs other duties as assigned
