POSITION DESCRIPTION
WSP is currently seeking a Civil/Hydrotechnical Engineering Intern to join our Power division for Central Canada. This position is to be located at our Markham office and reporting to the Manager, Civil/Hydrotechnical. This position will be responsible for performing civil and hydrotechnical design under the supervision of senior engineers, including calculations and preparation of drawings and specifications for hydraulic structures, civil works, and other infrastructure associated with renewable energy projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities;
  • Know and understand Civil Engineering requirements, including Ontario Building Code (OBC), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), and other relevant CSA standards;
  • Have good communication skills and ability to perform interdisciplinary coordination with other engineering disciplines per project requirements;
  • Have strong writing skills and ability to prepare meeting minutes, technical memoranda and reports;
  • Perform individually or as a team member within Civil/Hydrotechnical discipline and under direct supervision of Engineers;
  • Support Field team in construction services including site inspection and contract administration;
  • Manage small projects relatively independently under supervision of Engineer.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering or equivalent;
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in Ontario and Canada;
  • Eligibility for registration with the PEO (EIT) is required;
  • Previous success in customer services, client management and proposal writing is an asset;
  • Experience with Civil 3D is an asset.
