WSP is currently seeking a Lead Engineer, Mechanical to join our Mechanical & Project Engineering Department of the Oil and Gas group, located at our Calgary office.
  • Supervising an engineering group involved in the caption, planning and development of engineering design, projects, processes, proposals and estimates
  • Guiding through to completion in accordance with the schedule and budget on assigned major project of highly technical complexity
  • Assisting in the negotiation of critical engineering issues
  • Meeting frequently with clients to discuss assigned projects
  • Assigning and reviewing the work of subordinate design engineering staff
  • Guides project to completion in accordance with the related project schedule and budget
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining existing and new standards, guides, and procedures
  • Define scope and verify with client
  • Work with disciplines to understand the cost and schedule impact of changes
  • Facilitate scope change requests with client, create change orders/trends and obtain approval
  • Develop project risk matrix and conduct periodic risk reviews
  • Accountable for establishing basic design criteria for the project with the client; ensure compliance of PEP with National Business Line procedures
  • Assists Lead and/or Manager in the development of a Project Resource Plan
  • Define/confirm discipline scope, and create WBS
  • Follow procedures to monitor and control scope changes on project
  • Facilitate scope change requests with the project team / Project Manager
  • Complete regular status reports on both earned value and schedule
  • Maintain key corporate KPIs such as earned value, and utilization at the project level
  • Strive to understand client requirements and provide engineering solutions that are commensurate with overall client objectives
  • Participate I proposal development activities and partner with Business development to source new work with existing clients
  • Accountable for establishing basic design criteria for the project with the client; ensure compliance of PEP with established National Business Line procedures
  • Advocate the usage of and confirms compliance with all of the client and Corporate procedures
  • Ensure all design deliverable comply with applicable codes and standards
  • Manage Client expectations and negotiate successful outcomes
  • Mentor and coach others
  • Development of succession plans and participate in HIPO assessment and performance review process

  • Graduate in Engineering, Applied Science or Engineering Technology Diploma
  • Registered with Provincial Engineering Association - P.Eng or P.Tech
  • 7 - 10 years' experience
  • Ability to act as discipline or area lead on a project
  • Be able to handle queries from clients, vendors and project team
  • Proven communication and collaborative skills
