POSITION DESCRIPTION
WSP is currently hiring for a Bridge Engineer to join our Bridge Department in Transportation Engineering, located at our Thornhill office location. Reporting to the department manager this position will be responsible for preliminary and detailed design of bridges and other civil structures, cost estimating, checking of designs and drawings, contract document preparation, reports, proposals, and structural assessment/inspections.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to lead and manage several large scale bridge projects
  • Preliminary and detailed design of new bridges, culverts and retaining walls, and rehabilitation of existing structures;
  • Conduct inspections of existing bridges, culverts and retaining walls and prepare reports;
  • Prepare sketches for CAD staff and review CAD drawings;
  • Prepare technical construction specifications;
  • Liaise with contractors and owners during design and construction;
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering specializing in Structural Engineering from an accredited university would be an asset
  • Minimum 8+ years' of related experience;
  • Registered as a P. Eng.;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Technical understanding, design abilities, and current on bridge technologies;
  • Experience with design of rehabilitation of existing structures;
  • Specific areas of expertise required in the planning, preliminary and detailed design, and construction of bridges of standard and complex geometry, and culverts;
  • A thorough knowledge of current design codes and standards is essential;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Committed team player with strong organizational skills;
  • A vehicle in suitable working order and a valid driver's license is required.
