SALARY: $22.60 to $31.60 per hour (Payband 3)

JOB PURPOSE:

As part of the NB Trauma Program staff and reporting to the Administrative Director, the Trauma Education Coordinator supports the educational activity of the NB Trauma Program, with a primary focus on mobile trauma simulation

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Health/Business Administration or Adult Education, plus three (3) years' recent related experience. (Master's level preparation and 5 years related experience preferred)
  • Prior experience in health care and/or simulation education development
  • Demonstrable and current knowledge of trauma systems
  • Valid New Brunswick Driver's License
  • High regard for confidentiality
  • Written and spoken competency in English and French required at the Advanced level
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and with members of the healthcare team, including physicians, nursing staff, allied health providers, managers and board members
  • Ability to work effectively as both a member of a team and independently/with minimal supervision within a defined scope of responsibility
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from healthcare providers, managers, regulatory agencies or members of the community
  • Ability to provide strong, consistent logistical support to all aspects of educational program delivery
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, including interpretation of a variety of information furnished in written, oral or diagram format
  • Demonstrable initiative, judgment and dependability in completing work assignments, including well-developed organizational skills, priority setting and problem-solving techniques
  • Computer competency in all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); demonstrable ability to learn and effectively apply new technology platforms required to support the programs' educational activity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

In collaboration with the Clinical Lead - Mobile Simulation and with the NB Trauma Program Senior Leadership Team, the NB Trauma Program Education Coordinator is responsible to:

  • Confirm the annual curriculum content and associated equipment, supplies and faculty learning needs
  • Develop and implement faculty learning sessions as required to ensure faculty readiness for upcoming curricula
  • Develop an annual mobile simulation schedule that meets the objectives of the NB Trauma Program and that does not conflict with other learning activities of the program
  • Develop, implement and maintain strong document control systems for faculty and learners
  • Develop and implement standardized communication tools for all mobile simulation learners and faculty including general advertising and both learner-specific and faculty-specific communications prior to and after mobile simulation sessions
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with educational accreditation requirements
  • Provide logistical support to the delivery of mobile simulation sessions, including:
    • Verifying room availability at the host site
    • Ensuring all required equipment is inventoried and checked prior to session delivery
    • Ensuring that all required documentation and/or data entry devices are prepared for the session
    • Arranging transportation of equipment to/from the host site
    • Arranging meal(s) at the host site for learners and faculty
    • Ensuring that all required equipment is inventoried and rechecked upon return
    • Attend sessions to ensure coordination of the learning activity on site
  • Ensure program awareness with local Trauma Nurses and other leaders within host facilities
  • Ensure budgetary responsibility for Mobile Simulation offered by the NB Trauma Program
  • Develop, implement and apply an educational database to track participants and overall program effectiveness
  • Ensure that program evaluation and translational research data is collated and entered into related datasets
  • Develop, implement and apply an online registration system for learners, including collection of associated learner fees
  • Process all faculty payments 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all Mobile Simulation faculty and participants
  • Maintain all simulation equipment, including administration of associated service level agreements and warranties
  • Develop and implement a capital equipment replacement plan
  • Support completion of associated research proposals, including development and implementation of associated data collection methods

Physical Demands: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle or feel and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Work Environment:

  • Although the position is based within a hospital-based office environment, occasional exposure to the Emergency Department and other critical care areas within hospitals may be required. In addition, occasional, planned overnight travel throughout the province and in all seasons is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
