The Office of the Attorney General is seeking an individual to join the Legislative Services Branch as a lawyer in Fredericton.

The successful candidate will draft and revise the French version of public acts and regulations within a co-drafting system. The work will include the provision of legal advice, opinions and counsel related to acts and regulations to government departments and agencies.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Law Degree; completion of Articling; membership in good standing or eligibility for membership with the Law Society of New Brunswick.

Applicants with completion of their Articling by November 1, 2018, will be considered.

Candidates with up to 8 years of membership at the bar will be considered for this position.

An exceptionally high level of competency in written and oral French is essential for this position. Good comprehension and oral communication skills in English are also required for this position.

With the résumé, the applicant is also required to submit a French writing sample of no more than five pages that the applicant has authored. Applicants may also be required to sit an examination with respect to technical competencies.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate:

  • Legislative drafting experience within a government setting
  • Training and experience working with Arbortext Editor

Subject to the response of this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following is also required:

  • Working outside of regular hours of work without prior notice.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: The successful candidate will possess the following behavioural competencies: analytical thinking, teamwork and cooperation, effective interactive communication, self-control and stamina, initiative and concern for order.

SALARY: from $ 2,014 to $3,790 bi-weekly, depending on education and experience.
