The Office of the Auditor General, located in Fredericton, is an independent Office of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. Through our work, we provide objective information to the members of the Legislative Assembly and to the people of New Brunswick to promote accountability. We also provide government departments, Crown agencies, and other public sector organizations with recommendations to improve their economy, efficiency, and reporting on effectiveness.
We are seeking two audit assistants for our financial audit team for employment commencing in September 2018. The entry level position entails basic non-complex auditing and accounting work. Work assignments are delivered with specific instructions and work is conducted under close supervision. Some administration support duties may also be periodically required in this position.
Required qualifications: The candidates must possess a university degree, demonstrate a basic understanding of accounting and auditing principles, and be committed to successfully following the education program leading to the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. One audit assistant position requires written and spoken competence in English and French, and one position requires written and spoken competence in English. Please state your language capability. Additional qualifications that are not requirements of this position, but would be considered assets include previous work experience in auditing/accounting roles, previous experience in the New Brunswick public sector, a history of excellent academic achievement and completion of all education courses necessary to obtain the maximum possible course exemptions in the CPA education program. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of these asset qualifications in addition to the required qualifications in order to be given further consideration.
Required competencies: a strong aptitude for learning and attention to detail; an aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis; strong interpersonal skills including an aptitude for working in teams; a client service orientation; the ability to maintain objectivity; strong oral/written communication skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
A writing sample as well as language proficiency testing may be required as part of the interview process. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance prior to appointment. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level.
