The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture is seeking a Sport and Recreation Consultant within the Sport and Recreation Branch in Fredericton.

As a member of the Branch, the successful candidate will assume the role of liaison with and the provision of assistance to a number of provincial organizations. He or she will consult with provincial sport and recreation organizations to provide support and advice on organizational development, as well as provide leadership to help advance sport and recreation across the province. Work will involve interpretation of government policies, programs, services and budgets to these groups. The consultant will also assist with the planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of branch programs and projects; and will include advancing the "Canadian Sport Policy" and the "Framework for Recreation in Canada".

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A university degree in the field of sport administration or recreation, supplemented by a minimum of six (6) years of related experience with sport and recreation organizations OR a master in the field of sport administration or recreation, supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year of related experience with sport and recreation organizations.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. 

An equivalent combination of education training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate:

  • An in-depth knowledge of the sport and recreation system in New Brunswick and Canada; 
  • The ability to consult with provincial sport and recreation organizations leading to positive change;
  • A good knowledge of high performance sport and experience with Games.

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

The following operational requirements are also required:

  • Occasionally travel within and outside the province;
  • Work beyond normal business hours that includes attending evening and weekend meetings;
  • A valid class 5 driver's license.

SALARY: From $2,449 to $2,939 bi-weekly, depending upon qualifications.
