The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour is seeking an individual to join the New Brunswick Public Library Service as a part-time Library Clerk at the Saint John Free Public Library, East Branch in Saint John.

As a member of the library team, the Library Clerk provides loan service through an automated circulation system; provides basic reference service using traditional and electronic resources; provides reader's advisory service and assists in orienting the public in the use of library services; assists patrons in the use of information technology and promotes information literacy; assists in promoting the library and its services; contributes to the planning and presentation of programs for children and adults based on the library's programming schedule; assists in the delegation of tasks to volunteers, summer students and employment program personnel; assists in shipping and receiving materials; and assumes other duties as assigned. The Library Clerk will also assist in the maintenance of collections, the shelving of materials and shelf reading.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma and at least one (1) year of relevant experience; OR a post-secondary education diploma in a related field (such as a library/information study program). Experience using e-mail, the Internet and MS-Word is essential.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

The following operational requirements are also required: Daytime, evening and weekend work based on schedules. Maintaining the library collections will involve lifting.

Prior to appointment, the successful candidates will be required to obtain a criminal record check for work with the vulnerable sector.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: The successful candidates will possess the following behavioural competencies: Effective Interactive Communication; Client Service Orientation; Concern for Order; Teamwork and Cooperation.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: The successful candidates will possess the following technical competencies: Ability to use Office Technology, Software and Applications; Presentation Skills.

Salary: $625.50 to $749 bi-weekly.
