Composite Manufacturing Technician
The Composite Manufacturing Technician supports the full production cycle of composite components, including material preparation, fabrication, assembly, finishing, and installation. This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and proficiency with specialized tools, resins, and composite materials such as fiberglass and carbon fiber.
Key Responsibilities
Material Preparation & Measurement
- Accurately measure and weigh resins, hardeners, and related materials using gram scales and mixing equipment.
- Interpret and apply information from forms, templates, rulers, and production drawings to prepare materials to precise specifications.
- Identify and select appropriate resins, fabrics, core materials, and tools for each work order.
Cutting & Shaping Composite Materials
- Cut composite fabrics and core materials using scissors, shears, knives, cutters, and power saws.
- Shape, trim, and finish parts using routers, grinders, files, and sanding tools.
- Lay out materials according to templates, patterns, and production specifications.
Fabrication & Assembly
- Perform composite lay-ups, including positioning, bonding, rolling, and squeegeeing materials for proper adhesion and finish.
- Operate hand and power tools—such as orbital sanders, rivet guns, drills, fasteners, and clamps—to assemble or secure components.
- Apply vacuum-bagging techniques when required to support proper curing.
- Inspect parts throughout fabrication to identify defects or inconsistencies.
Finishing & Installation
- Sand, grind, and smooth surfaces to achieve required finish quality.
- Drill holes, install fasteners, and fit components according to installation specifications.
- Assist in the installation of finished composite components into larger assemblies or final products.
Safety & Quality
- Follow all safety procedures related to chemicals, resins, equipment, and composite materials.
- Maintain accurate documentation of materials, measurements, and completed work.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with production and safety standards.
- Perform quality checks to verify dimensional accuracy, structural integrity, and finish quality.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with composite materials or manufacturing equipment (preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, templates, and technical instructions.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
- Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks safely.
Shift Details
- Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
- Location: Markham (accessible via public transit)
