Position Title: Community Connection Worker

Reports to: Manager, Youth Services

Job Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Youth Services, the Community Connection Worker plays a vital role in linking Haisla community members with essential services, supports, and culturally grounded programming. This position provides advocacy, and direct support, particularly to those facing personal, social, or health-related challenges. The Community Connection Worker fosters strong, respectful relationships with individuals and families, working collaboratively across departments to promote well-being, cultural pride, and community resilience.

The Haisla Nation is the band government of the Haisla people. Our mission is to build a powerful, prosperous and proud community, healthy in mind, body and spirit. We believe in building a strong and thriving community, with healthy and happy members and a sustained and prosperous environment. We are about 2023+ people, with approximately 700 living in Kitamaat Village. We have lived off the land and waters of our traditional territory for thousands of years, and it remains the focus of all we do.

Duties & Responsibilities

Direct Support and Outreach Services:

  • Provide in-person and remote support to individuals and families in need.
  • Conduct home visits, wellness check-ins, and community outreach.
  • Connect individuals with health, education, employment, and housing services.
  • Participate in cultural, social, and community events to build trust and visibility.

Specialized Resource Support (Depending on Role/Need):

  • Child Welfare: Assist with identifying foster homes.
  • Mental Health & Addictions: Provide non-clinical support, advocacy, and referrals to the Health and Wellness program for counselling, addiction support and other wellness services.
  • Community Living: Help individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges access inclusive programs, housing, and independence support.
  • Shelters/Housing: provide resources for emergency shelters or transitional housing, addressing immediate needs and long-term planning.
  • Attend and support team meetings within the child and family services Dept.

Advocacy and Systems Navigation:

  • Support individuals in navigating government systems and completing applications for income assistance, housing, medical services, etc.
  • Advocate for individuals facing systemic or service-based barriers.
  • Act as a liaison between community members and service providers.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, service plans, and referrals.
  • Assist in collecting data to identify emerging needs and gaps in services.
  • Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and community planning sessions.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Social Work, Community Support, Human Services, or related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the Haisla community, culture, and traditional values is essential.
  • Experience working in a community-based or frontline support role.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and have reliable transportation.
  • Current First Aid/CPR and/or willingness to obtain.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and strength-based approaches.
  • Familiarity with local and regional services in health, housing, mental health, education, and Indigenous support networks.
  • Experience supporting Indigenous families and youth.
  • Crisis intervention or conflict resolution training.

Working Conditions

  • This role may include flexible hours including evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Must be comfortable with both office work and community-based outreach.
  • Physical activity such as home visits, transportation of clients, and event set-up may be required.

Salary Range: $30.35/hr - $37.49/hr
