Payroll and Benefits Specialist-Canada & US
Overview:
Responsible for processing payroll and administering employee benefits across Canada and the U.S. Ensures payroll accuracy, compliance with relevant laws, and maintains up-to-date employee records.Key Responsibilities:
  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for Canadian and U.S. employees
  • Calculate wages, bonuses, commissions, and manage all payroll deductions
  • Validate timesheets, attendance, and leave requests
  • Maintain payroll records, direct deposit details, and reconcile payroll accounts
  • Administer group insurance and retirement plans (e.g., RRSP), including reporting and compliance
  • Submit WSIB/WCB and workers' compensation filings
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial/state, and local regulations
  • Prepare tax filings (e.g., T4s, W2s, EHT, WSIB) and support audits
  • Maintain and update payroll software and generate reports as needed
  • Respond to employee and government inquiries related to payroll and benefits
  • Contribute to HR projects and perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years of payroll experience, including both Canadian and U.S. payroll
  • Knowledge of Dayforce is an asset
  • PCP or CPM certification strongly preferred
Skills & Competencies:
  • High attention to detail and strong numerical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and payroll systems
  • Solid understanding of payroll laws and tax regulations
  • Strong communication, customer service, and confidentiality skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure
