Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Children and Youth Services, the Supervisor, Children and Youth Services at Dixon Hall, this role will play a crucial role in aligning our services with our vision, mission, and values. Reporting to the Director, Seniors and Children & Youth, the core responsibilities include supervising a team of youth workers, overseeing programs, and ensuring the efficient delivery of services to children and youth in the community. This role will also be responsible for strategic planning, staff development, community partnerships, and providing program coverage when necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervision: Oversee a team of youth workers, providing direction, support, and performance evaluations.
- Program Development: Collaborate with your team to plan and implement effective youth programs, workshops, activities, and informative excursions.
- Outreach: Collaborate with youth and their families to acquire and maintain essential services, resources, and support.
- Community Collaboration: Foster effective working relationships with key community supports and resources.
- Grants and Funding: Identify relevant grants and support in writing funding proposals, grants and all other applications for funding and program development.
- Youth Mentoring: Provide support and mentorship to empower youth while also developing team skills.
- Service Referrals: Direct youth to workshops and formal/informal services as needed.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategies to address the unique needs of the youth community.
- Community Awareness: Stay updated on community resources and issues affecting youth in the Regent Park Community.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Ensure accurate program records, statistics, and prepare required reports.
- Staff Development: Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to youth workers in their personal and professional development.
- Community Engagement: Collaborate with community partners, residents, and business sector members to design and present presentations/forums on settlement needs and experiences.
- Agency Representation: Represent the agency as needed at relevant community agency meetings and events.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the manager, fellow supervisors, and other Dixon Hall staff and volunteers.
- Participation in Meetings and Events: Actively engage in department and agency meetings and events.
Qualifications
To be considered for the Supervisor, Children and Youth Services role, candidates should meet the following qualifications:- Degree in Social Work/Social Sciences or a related field. The employer may exempt relevant post-secondary education with at least 5 years of experience working with youth in community settings.
- Five to Seven years of youth engagement experience, including work with youth from diverse ethnocultural and socio-economic backgrounds and leadership experience in youth mentoring and volunteering.
- Demonstrated experience in supervision and program planning in community-based settings.
- Understanding of issues facing at-risk youth, focusing on young women and girls.
- Experience with casework processes, including needs assessments, referrals, case management, and follow-ups.
- Ability to develop and deliver workshops/educational forums and evaluate various programs/activities using appropriate evaluation tools.
- Familiarity with youth services in the City of Toronto and Ontario and experience in collaborating with other community organizations.
- Experience working in multicultural settings with diverse staff, clients, and volunteers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; fluency in additional languages is an asset.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
- Able to provide a "Clear" vulnerable sector police background check as required.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, leadership, and advocacy skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Availability to work evening hours and weekends.
- Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
- Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear' or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
- Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
