Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join a fast-paced and rapidly growing organization. Your success will be defined by your ability to:
- Support the setup and full-cycle maintenance of projects in the accounting system
- Prepare client invoices in accordance with contract terms and follow up to ensure timely approval and payment
- Coordinate accounts payable, including processing subcontractor and vendor invoices and ensuring accurate accruals
- Monitor project financials, including budgets, change orders, expenses, commitments, and invoice tracking
- Assist Project Managers in finalizing monthly financial reports, including internal and external cost reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve project gross margins and ensure accurate cost recovery
- Perform month-end and quarter-end closing activities, including open PO analysis, cost accruals, and variance investigation
- Manage and maintain work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and provide operational support as needed
- Lead initiatives to improve invoicing processes and enhance financial reporting tools
- Develop and maintain monthly cash flow forecasts for projects and provide regular updates
- Collaborate with the Finance team on ad hoc duties and cross-functional initiatives
- 4+ years of experience in project accounting or a similar role
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- Experience in the construction industry or a related field is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of financial controls, processes, and project accounting principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Eclipse accounting software is an asset
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
