Your Role:
The Financial Analyst plays a key role in supporting NBS financial health by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to inform strategic decision-making. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting and reconciliations, supporting internal and external audits, and processing financial transactions as required. The Financial Analyst also provides insightful analysis and actionable recommendations to reduce costs, optimize financial performance, and support long-term planning, offering clear and concise explanations of complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders and helping to build a shared understanding across departments.
This position is a hybrid work arrangement, working three days per week in an office environment.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop various financial analysis tools/models to support management for decision making and for effective budgeting/forecasting; train business managers in the use of tools/models
  • Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual budget and forecasting process
  • Play a supporting role in the accurate and timely reporting of financial data
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and analytical materials for Board, Committee and Senior management meetings (including charts, graphs etc.)
  • Support in annual year-end audit and any other audits as required
  • Create various reconciliation tools to support the month-end and year-end accounting cycles
  • Assess needs and support the development of relevant dashboard materials for business managers
  • Manage and coordinate key financial measurements (revenue, expense, and cash); advise on cost reduction opportunities
  • Monitor variances between budget/forecast and actual, and follow up with business managers on discrepancies
  • Analyze financial performance, identify deficiencies and recommend improvement
  • Communicate or liaise with departmental managers, finance personnel in meeting deadlines and completing tasks assigned
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information, investment decisions, or any other tasks assigned by the organization
  • Participate in financial system upgrades and conversions
  • Serve as key backup for other Accountants
  • All other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Business/Accounting/Finance or a related field, and currently pursuing a CPA designation
  • 2-5 years of experience in Accounting/Finance reporting and analysis
  • Experience in creating and maintaining complex spreadsheets and use of analytical tools (i.e. pivot tables, graphs, charts) in Excel
  • Experience in creating a presentation package using PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience in BlackBaud (Student Billing and Raiser's Edge) and ActiveNet and/or any other registration/sales systems desirable
  • Previous experience with a non-for-profit organization or a school considered an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Powerpoint
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Meet deadlines and handle high volume of work with minimal supervision
