Wilco Contractors Northwest Inc. is searching for an experienced Traffic Control/Flagger Person to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing traffic flow around construction sites, ensuring the safety of both the workers and the public.

As a Traffic Control/Flagger Person, you will set up and maintain traffic control devices and signs, direct vehicles, and provide guidance to pedestrians in work zones. Your job is crucial in minimizing disruptions and ensuring that our projects run smoothly and safely.

This position requires strong communication skills, a keen awareness of your surroundings, and a commitment to safety at all times. An ability to remain calm and composed in high-traffic situations is essential.

Flagger – Job Duties

  • Position signs, barricades, cones, and other safety devices according to traffic control plans.
  • Ensure proper placement, visibility, and compliance with local and provincial regulations.
  • Safely guide vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians through or around construction zones.
  • Use hand signals, stop/slow paddles, and radios to manage traffic efficiently and prevent accidents.
  • Reposition traffic control devices if conditions or jobsite layout changes.
  • Maintain a safe work environment for both workers and the public.
  • Communicate clearly with crew members about incoming traffic or potential hazards.
  • Adhere to company safety protocols and provincial traffic control regulations.
  • Attend safety meetings and training as required.

Requirements

  • Valid Traffic Control Person (TCP) certification as per Alberta Transportation standards is required.
  • Must have previous experience in traffic control or a similar role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of traffic control procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and outside for extended periods.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive to surroundings and changing conditions.
  • Physically fit and able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Reliable transportation to various job sites as required.
