Reporting to the Manager, Purchasing and Packaging Operations. The Packaging Optimization Manager is responsible for the development, design and manufacture of sustainable packaging solutions for the Canadian market, Optimizing the design for manufacture and assembly.
Working with Lindt’s existing and new vendor supply base, develop new sustainable packaging solutions by applying their knowledge of packaging and proven understanding of packaging materials, structural design and print processes. Ensuring materials are of Lindt quality, provide a timely and cost-effective supply of sustainable packaging materials for our co-pack operation. The Packaging Manager will work closely with our suppliers, 3PL co-pack, Marketing, Sales and Retail departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops the Packaging development value stream to optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly, reducing material costs and assembly labour costs.
- Support the packaging development process, provide timely and accurate cost estimates for new packaging in order to meet project timelines.
- Collaborating with suppliers to develop new solutions.
- With Marketing, Sales and Retail participate in the packaging development process.
- Review and advise Marketing on graphic layout/die lines.
- Source Sustainable alternative or unique packaging suppliers to enhance the competitive and creative environment.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement activities resulting in improving Packaging sustainability strategies with Marketing and Retail.
- Manage and provide guidance to the Packaging Technologist
- Manage packaging information in JDE.
- Manage Stewardship data and collection.
- Request Co-Pack project Costing.
- Retail development – Resale – Packaging Products - Indirect
- On site product approvals
- Ensure materials are sustainable, comply with company guidelines with the utilization of approved vendors.
- Monitor quality and vendor performance, non-conformance issues.
- Monitor trade and marketing developments that can affect costs and supply sources, through industry and supplier contacts, trade publications and supplier visits.
- Continuous improvement and optimization with packaging design, logistics units and packaging procurement processes to drive supply chain efficiency.

Qualifications:
- University or college degree, preferably with a supply chain or engineering focus
- Proven track record in purchasing and / or packaging development with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably in a CPG environment.
- Experience with ERP, MRP, planning systems and data base
- Proficient in Microsoft office (Excel), and smart sheet
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all internal and external organizations.
- A self-starter with an ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Excellent negotiating, organizational, oral and written communication skills
- Experience with CAPE/TOPS, pallet program. Esko web centre a benefit
- Ability to perform in a demanding dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of Packaging and materials management principles.
- Knowledge of packaging graphics and printing processes and consumer package trends.
