The Opportunity

TC Energy is looking to add an #EnergyProblemSolver in Calgary to support our efforts in Energy Problem Solving and our daily operations.

We are looking for motivated legal summer students who are interested in gaining a broad range of corporate experience supporting TC Energy's in-house Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines Law team, in the areas of regulatory and corporate commercial law at the Calgary corporate office.

During your 4-month work-term, you will become a valued member of the team and gain a solid understanding of basic regulatory and commercial law, and have the opportunity to understand how the legal research you conduct is applied in a tangible and practical manner. Additionally, you will gain exposure to the types of legal issues faced by a major energy company as they pursue commercial opportunities and navigate the regulatory environment. By working alongside legal counsel and associates with deep expertise in the area, you will learn how these issues are tackled and experience the unique perspective of working in an in-house setting.

What you'll do

  • General legal research, analysis, and reporting on Canadian legal issues in the areas of regulatory, commercial, environmental and compliance law

  • Assist company lawyers with the preparation of and review of various legal documents, including administrative and judicial pleadings, commercial contracts and other legal agreements

  • Other tasks, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Canadian law school or Faculty of Law

  • Must have completed second year of law school prior to May 2025

  • Enrollment at an accredited university, and returning to school for at least one semester following your work term

  • Must have completed at least one legal research course

  • Business background is considered an asset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Well-developed analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to learn quickly, understand, and implement new concepts

  • Team-oriented with and a positive attitude, demonstrating a high level of cooperation, with the ability to work independently when required

  • A professional demeanor

  • Strong research skills and attention to detail, and self-motivated.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
