Telecon is looking for an energetic and motivated individual to join our growing Fibre to the Home (FTTH) Civil Construction Team in Ottawa!

Working under the supervision of the Foreman, the Directional Drill Locator to work as part of a team with our Drill Operator to ensure the safe and effective operation of our directional drilling machine and drive the support vehicle (s) used to transport this equipment to various project sites.

This is a full-time, field position offering a competitive wage of $35.52 per hour along with the following:

The daily starting point for this role is our construction yard located at 2726 Carp Road (K0A 1L0).

YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

Load and unload directional drill equipment in a manner that is secure and damage free
Transport associated tools, materials and/or equipment in a safe manner
Complete Driver's logbook & daily vehicle inspection (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), maintenance and repair reports, accident, or incident reports
Complete a daily inspection on equipment prior to commencing work
Prepare the drill fluid based on site conditions prior to boring commencing
In conjunction with locator, operate the directional drill using the selected bore heads and back reamers to place cables and / or duct
Trouble shoot any equipment issues and relay to service technician for assistance or resolution
Able to operate the drill locater as required
Other duties as required

THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

Valid Class A driver's license with 'R' or 'Z' endorsement an asset
Must have similar previous drilling experience and working around existing buried utilities
Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment
Must be able to lift 23 kg (50 lbs)
Must provide a clean driving record (abstract) and criminal check prior to employment commencing
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Must be fully proficient with CVOR and Book 7 requirements
Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements.
