The Canadian Press is looking for a Content and Metadata Engineer to join our Content Operations team in a full-time permanent role located in Toronto. Overview of the Role
As a metadata specialist you will help incorporate state-of-the-art metadata practices into our newsroom operations. We are in the process of integrating a knowledge-management platform into our content production workflows and establishing a system of metadata governance and best practices. You will work closely with all departments that touch content (news, IT, sales and marketing) and help CP to optimize and operationalize its use of metadata to enhance our products and revenues.
As a content analyst with digital supply-chain experience, you will monitor production systems and content feeds to ensure efficient delivery to customers.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the integration of the knowledge management system into news production workflows
- Ensure that the CP wire and digital feeds to all business partners for articles, images, audio, video, and other digital assets are working properly. Work with clients to optimize and troubleshoot content delivery as needed
- Develop the taxonomies and ontologies needed to model our metadata usage in stories, audio and video in English and French
- Monitor and troubleshoot categorization and other metadata issues by running APIs and following content through the digital supply chain
- Analyze news formats and standards in XML (NewsML-G2, Nitf, RSS) and JSON (NinJS)
- Analyze how each of our products could take optimal advantage of metadata in consultation with stakeholders in the newsroom and on the sales and marketing team
- Build and monitor dashboards related to tagging practices and metadata-driven content distribution
- Promote metadata awareness throughout the organization and conceive of ways to improve workflows and products
Skills and Experience
- Experience with data analysis and data-feed transformation
- Experience building/managing taxonomies
- Experience managing digital supply chains and data pipelines
- Familiarity with metadata standards and schemas such as Dublin Core, SKOS, etc.
- Knowledge of Ontologies, Linked data/RDF, semantic web
- Knowledge of exchange standards (XML/JSON)
- Familiarity with APIs and helper tools such as Postman
- Excellent oral, and written communications skills
- Knowledge of the news (or similar) industry
- Experience with a metadata/taxonomy management system
- Http programming experience
- French language proficiency as asset
